10 Reasons To Cut Processed Food Out Of Your Diet

Processed foods are the norm in the standard American diet.   Let me motivate you to cut them out of your diet, here are 10 reasons you should pass on processed foods.

10 Reasons To Cut Processed Food Out Of Your Diet

1.Processed Foods Leave You Feeling Hungry

Processed foods are so foreign to your body that right after you get done eating a meal your body isn’t satisfied and craves more food, real food.  This makes you eat more to satisfy those cravings ( we have all been there, you get done eating a meal and want something more)

2.Processed Foods Are Full of High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup is in most processed foods.  The problem with high fructose corn syrup is that it is so processed your body doesn’t know what to do with  it and stores it straight to fat.

3. Processed Foods are Deceiving

Foods that we think are healthy with labels such as low-fat, low carb, vitamin fortified, and enriched are a lot of times unhealthy for us.  It sounds counter intuitive but if the product has to convince you it is healthy a lot of times it isn’t.  According to the Trix box it is a really healthy option fortified with 12 vitamins and a great source of calcium…..hmmm?  If something has to be enriched or fortified that is a RED FLAG that the food has been stripped of real nutrients and synthetic vitamins have been added back in.  Simplify your life eat real foods.

4. Processed Foods Use Fake Ingredients

Ritz 100 Calorie Pack

Ingredients in Ritz “healthy” 100 calorie snack pack:

Ingredients:  (WHITE FLOUR)UNBLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR, (RANCID OIL)SOYBEAN AND/OR PALM OIL, (HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP)CORN SYRUP SOLIDS,  CHEDDAR CHEESE* (CULTURED MILK, SALT, ENZYMES, ANNATTO EXTRACT COLOR), DEXTROSE, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, AUTOLYZED YEAST EXTRACT, COLOR ADDED, (MSG)MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE (FLAVOR ENHANCER), SOY LECITHIN, DRIED SOY SAUCE (SOYBEANS, WHEAT, SALT), SODIUM CASEINATE, LACTIC ACID, TAMARINDS, ACETIC ACID, NATURAL FLAVOR.

Choose Mary’s Gone Crackers instead.  I will admit these taste healthy, but Isaiah and me love them still and you are getting LOTS of whole grains.  Or for a less healthy option but still better than 100 calorie snack packs buy Triscuits they only have three ingredients.

Ingredients:Organic Short Grain Brown Rice, Organic Whole Quinoa, Organic Brown Flax Seeds, Organic Brown Sesame Seeds, Organic Whole Amaranth, Organic Whole Millet, Filtered Water, Sea Salt, Organic Chia Seeds, Organic Wheat-Free Tamari (Water, Whole Soybeans, Sea Salt, Organic Alcohol).

5. Processed Foods Increase Your Risk of Diabetes, Heart problems, and Obesity

According to a 14 year study done by Nurses Health Study they determined that 80% of coronary hear disease, 90% of type 2 diabetes, and 70% of colon cancer could have been avoided if the persons DIET was different.

6. Processed Foods Zap Your Energy

Eating dead foods makes your body draw upon its reserves for nutrients.  Think of your body as a bank account.  The more that you draw out by eating processed dead foods the more you “bankrupt” your health.  Your body has to draw the necessary enzymes from somewhere if it is not getting it from your diet.   This leaves you depleted making you feel heavy and drained.   Replenish your “enzyme” bank account with fresh fruit and veggies.

7.  Processed Foods Lead To Weight Gain

Scientists from Pomona College in California conducted a study where they fed people two meals with the exact same number of calories; the only difference was how much the food was processed.
Group A was treated to sandwiches made with real cheese on whole-grain bread; Group B was given sandwiches with processed cheese on fiber-stripped white bread. The results, published in Food & Nutrition Research, found that the processed meal decreased the number of calories you burn when eating and digesting—by nearly 50% compared to the meal made with whole foods.

8. Processed Foods Alter Your Hormones

According to researchers at Tufts University, high fructose corn syrup increases triglycerides, boosts fat-storing hormones, and drives people to overeat and gain weight. Adopt my zero-tolerance policy, and steer clear of high fructose corn syrup.

9.  Processed Foods Change Your Taste Buds

They make it hard to taste real food because they are so high in salt, fat, and sugar your taste buds get used to it.  This leaves real food tasting bland.  For example if you eat an apple pop tart and then bite into an apple the apple wont taste nearly as sweet anymore.  Cut out processed foods and give your taste buds a chance to LOVE all of the foods that God has created for us.  If you don’t believe me take out sugar for a week and you will notice how much sweeter fruit tastes.

10. Processed Foods Effect Your Noggin

According to research from UCLA, it takes only two months to lower levels of brain chemicals responsible for learning and memory on a steady diet of processed foods
