A Few Of My Favorite Things – Part 2

Art Hub For Kids

I got A LOT of emails about this one.  You guys wanted to know the cute site my kids learned to draw from.  It’s called Art Hub for Kids.  The site is run by a Dad and his three kids.  He teaches them to draw different things according to their ability level.  The videos show his drawing and his kids drawing right along side him.  They draw all sorts of fun things.  He is so cute with his kids! My kids like watching his kids draw,  it makes them feel like they can do it.

Audible

We listen to A LOT of books in our house.  I first realized how much my kids liked listening to books when we went on an around the world trip.  We had A LOT of long car rides, plane rides, and bus rides while we traveled for 3 1/2 months!  I didn’t want my kids to be on their devices for so many hours, so I got stories for them to listen to.  I didn’t know if they would like listening or not.  Turns out my son LOVED listening.

We do quiet time every Sunday after church.  We take a nap and the kids listen to a story or Alexander’s Amazing Adventures.  Skye does quiet time everyday while Cooper naps and she listens to a story and plays or colors.  I have found stories that she loves too.  Just this year she started to like listening to them. They have learned all kinds of stuff, and I love that it fuels their imagination.

I also listen to a TON of books on Audible.  I like to listen while I am cleaning, on long car rides, or sometimes even biking or running.  I bought the yearly membership.  Sometimes you can check out online audio books through your local library – we have done that before.  Or even books on CD at the library.

If you want to learn what my favorite books to listen to are, post a comment here and I’ll write a future post about that!

Luv Ya Skin Care

Okay, this one is a life saver.  I remember when I was pregnant with my first and a lady saw the beginnings of pregnancy mask on my face.  She told me I should wear sunscreen. Did I listen?  Noooo!  I SO wish I would have.  I got the worst pregnancy mask.  I looked like I had a mustache – pretty much not attractive.  Plus, you can’t just wax that one off and make up really doesn’t cover it.  I usually don’t wear a lot of make up, but I found myself not wanting to leave the house without cover up on.

I tried a lot of different things that helped a little or not at all.  I finally found Luv Ya skin line.  Katia (the owner) is a mom that used to be a model.  She is an esthetician and couldn’t find products that she felt good about,  so she created her own!  I used the Vitamin A Cleanse, C+ Collagen Serum, and Brilliance Booster for months.  It took a few months of using it consistently… meaning I DID not go to bed without doing my routine.  But it totally went away.  Thank goodness!

She also came out with a new line now that is geared toward sun spots.  I am using that currently to keep sun spots from coming back.

Katia is so wonderful and when I told her I wanted to include her as part of our favorite things, said she would offer you guys a FREE skin skin evaluation, a sample gift (valued at $135), 10% off your initial purchase, AND a BONUS $20 off certificate towards your next purchase to keep your skin routine ongoing.  Guys, jump on this!

You can get her offer by calling her at (786) 445-3300 or go to her website and sign up for a free consultation.  Make sure to let her know that you came from me (Desi at Unconventional Kitchen) so you can get your sample gift and take full advantage of the offer.

Elta MD SPF 40

I told you my story of pregnancy mask and how I have gotten into a good skin routine. The other thing I ALWAYS do is wear sunscreen on my face.   I don’t leave the house without it, even if I just go running.  Before using this sunscreen, I would forget to put it on.  But I use this sunscreen as a face lotion and it is tinted so it doubles up as my cover up too.  I don’t wear any other cover up.  It is really light so if you like a lot of coverage, you might want to wear something with this.  If I need more coverage I will use Ulta’s blemish stick.  I know you can find Elta MD sunscreen at some Costco’s. It isn’t the tinted one, but it is a much better deal there.. I use the tinted one.  You can also find it here.

Food Processor

For the kitchen, this is a work horse!  It makes a mean salsa, perfect hummus, and can even shred cheese.  I love my food processor as much as I love my Blendtec.  The two are irreplaceable tools in my kitchen.  You guys already know how much I love my blender, and this one is my other must have!

Hi Mariah! I always tell my kids thank you for saying thank you. So thank you for saying thank you-it is so nice to hear! Audible is THE best. I have a yearly gold membership. I have had it for 3 years now. It is great because if you don’t like a book you can take it back really easily and I can use credits to buy the books. I will do a post on our favorite books. There are some series of books that have hours of listening and are only one credit so a really good deal. Also I am so glad you are loving the favorites. I think we might start including a favorite in each email.

Hi Jessie! I HEAR you, it is the worst to get. I used her skin line and it is gone for me now, but I do have to be religouse about sun screen. You should check out that sunscreen it has zinc, lauric acid, and protects UVB rays as well. I don’t receive anything for promoting them, but it has made such a big difference for me I wanted you guys to know about it. I also LOVE that drawing site. The Dad is SO cute!

I would love to know what your kids like to listen to. My 4.5 year old loves the Winnie the Pooh book on CD we get from the library. But I’ve had trouble finding other age appropriate books for her to listen to. Thanks!

Hi! I loved listening to the Mom Conference, and since hearing that your young children enjoy listening to books on Audible, I’ve been curious about what they’re listening to. Do you let them choose from an age-appropriate list? It seems like they could go through a ton of children’s books in a short amount of time. Our 4-year-old son loves being read to and is already enjoying simple chapter books (e.g. Magic Treehouse series and Adventures of Sophie Mouse series). We’re just reading these outloud for now, but I’m curious about supplementing what we have time to read outloud with audio books. I’d love to see more posts about this topic from you! 🙂
