Three Essential Components to have when PREPARING MEALS TO GO!

packable meals

I can just feel now, how the energy is in my kitchen when my family is trying to get out of the house on time while packing meals to-go as I’m writing this…YIKES!

Noisy, fast paced conversations, bickering between our kids, all while asking or saying to my kids, “did you brush your teeth,” “go get your books,” or “bring your breakfast plate to the kitchen!” While at the same time, a whole bottle of milk spilled all over the kitchen counter and our dog has a dirty sock in his mouth, that he’s not willing to give up! Sound familiar?

I have found being armed with these three essential components, makes for a much smoother & quicker transition to get everyone out of the house on time.

  1. Time – Allow for an additional 15-20 minutes to prepare and portion your chosen foods for each family member before you need to hit the road!
  2. Sealed Plastic Containers – Stock your kitchen cabinets with multiple sizes of plastic containers that must include leak-proof lids.
  3. Master your 5 Food Groups – It’s a goal of mine to provide my family with at least 3 food groups with each meal or snack. Post the Food Group Guide in your kitchen to  help you & your family!

What are the 5 Food Groups & Food Examples?

*Carbohydrates/Grains – bread, crackers, pasta, rice, tortilla, cereal

*Vegetables – broccoli, spinach, carrots, celery, other dark leafy greens

*Fruits – apple, orange, berries, banana

*Dairy  milk, yogurt, cheese, lactose-free & fortified beverages & products

*Protein  lean meats & poultry, fish, beans, nuts & seeds
